SEGA have taken a look at Sonic games with average scores on Metacritic and decided to de-list these games from further sale.

“Any Sonic game with an average Metacritic score has been de-listed, we have to do this and increase the value of the brand. This will be very important when more big Sonic releases arrive in the future.” Said Sega’s SVP of EMEA Jurgen Post.

Post continued: “We could make a lot of money on back-catalogue Sonic titles, but let’s keep the number of Sonic games available under control. Otherwise you can have cannibalisation. If there are ten Sonic games on the shelves, with people seeing Sonic Rush DS or Sonic Rush Adventure, this may not help our overall strategy.”

What’s next up for the blue hedgehog, then? The episodic Sonic the Hedgehog 4 is released for the iTunes App Store today and will be released on PS3 and Xbox 360 next Wednesday, followed by a Wii version on the 15th October. Next month, Sonic fans can also look forward to Sonic Free Riders for the Xbox 360’s Kinect, which is due for launch November 10th, and there’s also Sonic Colours on the Wii, launching November 12th.

Will any of these Sonic games be average? Let’s hope not!
